Cheerleading is a lot harder then it looks. Yes, anyone can go out on a mat and wave there hands around and smile for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. A cheerleader, however, can go out on a mat and tumble, dance, throw up stunts, and smile for 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

University of Kentucky UCA Champs
Back in January, the University of Kentucky Wildcats had won their 19th UCA National Championship at the ESPN Wild World of Sports. They have been going to this competition for the past 28 years. This team seems to not be able to clinch the title 3 years in a row but they always seem to gain it back the following year... Do I detect a pattern?
Unlike the North Carolina State University, The University of Kentucky's Cheerleading team is considered a spirit team but yet apparently falling from a 3 high pyramid is just like getting hit by a 300 pound line-man.
As you will see in the below video the University of Kentucky had great use of signs, pom poms and megaphones... the use of things like that will score you big and easy points on your score sheet. Those points could be the difference between a First and Second place.
Here is there performance at the 2012 UCA Nationals in Florida...

North Carolina State University
At most colleges and universities, cheerleading is not listed under there women's sports tab, because most people believe that cheerleading is not a sport. like I have said before cheering for a football team or a basketball team is not a sport. Although most Collegiate Cheerleading teams do cheer on the sidelines of there schools basketball or football teams, the teams think of those games as practice for when they are competing at a big competition.
At North Carolina State University, when you go to there athletics page and you place your mouse on the schedules tab. right there is black and white is the word cheerleading, under the women's sports section.
These cheerleaders work hard at what they do, as does all the other teams out there. Here is a little taste of how they did at NCA Competition in 2011

She had a vast background in dance and gymnastics. Sibley, started her college cheerleading career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is now the coach at HPU.

They have a couple different teams that compete, there is the large coed, small coed, and there all girl team... Here is there nationals performance from Daytona Nationals 2011

THE BEGINNING
This blog will be a look into collegiate cheerleading. The division 1 schools, who the champions are, how to's on stunts, jumps, tumbling, and other parts that make up a routine. I hope you all learn from my experience and take into account that I have been through a career of cheerleading and that I do know what I am talking about. Something that I have learned and that I strongly believe in is that ... A TEAM CANNOT GET BETTER IF EACH YEAR THEY START FROM SCRATCH WITH NEW CHEERLEADERS. If you start cheering don't let your team down... Continue till the next year :)
